Common questions

Does it work when the screen is locked?

Yes — that is the point. The capture runs as a foreground service so it fires while the keyguard is up.

Will the person notice?

There is no flash, no shutter sound and nothing shown on the lock screen. You can also disguise the launcher icon so the app does not advertise itself.

Can it catch a wrong fingerprint?

No, and no app can. Android gives third-party apps no signal for a failed fingerprint at the system lock screen — biometrics are handled in an isolated part of the system. In practice this matters less than it sounds: after a few failed fingerprint attempts Android forces a PIN, and a wrong PIN triggers FaceTrap normally.

What if the phone is offline?

The capture is encrypted and queued on the device, then uploads as soon as there is a connection.

What if the thief wipes the phone?

If the capture uploaded before the wipe, the evidence is already on our server and in your inbox. That is why delivery is handled server-side rather than by the phone.

Why does it need Device Admin?

It is the only Android mechanism that tells an app a lock-screen unlock attempt failed. FaceTrap uses it solely for that signal — it never locks, wipes or restricts your device.

How do I stop it?

Disarm it in the app, or uninstall. Either stops all capture immediately.
